Chalkidiki

Chalkidiki is a peninsula located southeast of the city of Thessaloniki. With its characteristic three smaller peninsulas (Kassandra, Sithonia, Athos), it resembles a trident piercing the Aegean. Sunny, golden sandy beaches, deep and picturesque gulfs, traditional villages, small uninhabited islands and sheltered bays, pine-clad hills descending to the sea, Mediterranean climate and magnificent natural beauty compose the picture of today's Chalkidiki.

In the ancient times, Chalkidiki was part of Thrace. The first Greek settlers in this area came from Chalcis (Halkis) and Eretria, cities in Euboea, around the eighth century BC who founded cities such as Mende, Toroni and Scioni; a second wave came from Andros in the sixth century BC. The ancient city of Stageira was the birthplace of the great philosopher Aristotle.

In June 2003, at the holiday resort Porto Carras located in Neos Marmaras, Sithonia, European Union leaders presented the first draft of the European Summit.

Chalkidiki is a MICE Destination with large Hotel properties with Meeting facilities and smaller ones ‘boutique’, ideal for Incentives. A cruise close to the Mount Athos, a holy place where Christian Orthodox monasteries survived for over half a millennium is one of the most interesting experiences. A yacht cruise to a secluded small island for BBQ, trekking or biking or even jeep safari to the pine wood, golf at the Porto Carras complex are just a few ideas on what an incentive group can experience in this destination.
